Clifford Lee Guse, 69, of Wanatah passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 19, 2020.  He was born June 4, 1951 to Howard & Thelma (Mennen) Guse and graduated from Wanatah High School in 1969.  Cliff worked for Shamrock Turf Nurseries in LaPorte County for nearly 30 years.  His parents founded Guse Christmas Trees in 1967, an endeavor which Cliff was involved with from the beginning and which he assumed management and ownership of in the mid-1990’s until the present.  The Christmas tree farm was a natural fit for Cliff’s personality, allowing him to host guests at the farm year round.  He especially enjoyed sharing his love of Christmas tree farming with the families who made cutting a Christmas tree their Christmas tradition.  Cliff enjoyed tinkering with antique tractors, traveling with his family and friends, and watching his grandchildren play at the farm. Cliff embraced his membership in the local community; ironically these lifelong friendships only seemed to be strengthened with the mutual disparagement that would be exchanged over morning coffee, lunches, and “beer thirty” gatherings at the farm.  His ribbing humor, easy laugh and bright eyes will forever be missed. He was a lifelong member of Hanna United Methodist Church and a member of the National Christmas Tree Association.  On May 26, 1973 he married Bonnie Sinn who survives along with their daughters, Carrie (Justin) Cusick & Jodie (Ken) Funkhouser all of Wanatah, brothers, Brian (Kim) Guse of LaPorte, Glen (Julie) Guse of Washington state and his beloved grandchildren, Kylee & Alyssa Cusick and Madelyn & Jacob Funkhouser.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
A committal service will be held on Thursday, December 3rd at Hanna Cemetery beginning at 11:00 am with Pastor Jim Denton officiating. Family and friends are encouraged to attend. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. A celebration of life to be held at the farm will be announced at a later date.  Memorial donations are encouraged to be made to Hanna United Methodist Church or the VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana.
