Julie Ann Rogers Abatie, 55, of Valparaiso and Morgan Township passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 31, 2019. She was born April 13, 1964 to Jerry & C. Lynn (Miller) Rogers and graduated from Morgan Township High School in 1982. Julie’s career path took her from hair stylist to baker to Valpo YMCA van driver to Blue Chip security guard and back to baking, but it was always raising her daughter, Trisha, and making a warm, loving and nurturing home for family that she focused on.  Despite recent physical pains and challenges maintained her spunky personality with a smile that could light up a room and finishing every phone conversation with “I love you”.  Rekindling a high school friendship in the last few years with Colin Anderson brought her immense joy and satisfaction.  He survives along with her daughter, Trisha (Ian) Bencsics of South Bend, Colin’s children, Michelle (John) Fela & Christopher Anderson and mother, Shirley Anderson, Julie’s sisters, Anita Edwards & Deana (Lance) Crabtree, grandsons, Liam & Tiernan Bencsics, step-grandchildren, Ann Marie, Luke & William Fela and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lynn Villars and step-father, Richard Villars.
A visitation will be held Sunday from 1 – 3m pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kouts, with funeral service beginning at 3:00 pm, Rev. Robert Hauter officiating and cremation to follow at Angelcrest Crematory.  Julie adored her grandsons, Liam, age 8, and Tiernan, age 5, and was able to find additional love in her heart for a parade of canine companions over the years: Patches, Petey, Roxie, Rudy, Rocky & Berta.  20 years of league bowling was a welcome diversion with her friends.  And a proprietary recipe for fudge turtles has made her a baking legend.  Julie, thanks for giving us so many wonderful memories and making everything in the world around you a little bit better.
