Douglas James Wells, 64, of Valparaiso, IN passed peacefully in the comforts of his home on Saturday, December 25, 2021.  Doug was born on August 28th, 1957 in Oak Park, IL to Arlene Maxwell.  Doug is preceded in death by his adoptive parents Ralph and Phyllis Wells (McGuire).  He is survived by wife, Nancy Wells (Knoppel); daughters: Kelly (Joe) Sullivan, Holly Wells, Cassie (Daniel) Wells-Bravo, Rebecca (Nick) Gordon; step children: Dee (Eric) Stark, Mandy (Bart) Butler, Michael Phipps, Timothy (Lauren) Phipps; his Mother, Arlene Maxwell; and brother, Tom Wells.  He had many grandchildren, nieces, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Doug graduated from Hobart High School in 1975.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from the Valparaiso Technical Institute. After years of working in the field, he found a love for teaching his expertise to others as a Professor at Ivy Tech Community College.
Doug had many talents, and he had a deep love for the Smoky Mountains and friends he made during his adventures around Gatlinburg, TN.  He was a HUGE University of Tennessee fan, it’s safe to say that orange was his favorite color. This led him to meet his friend, a Tennessee native, and also the Senior Pastor at Valley Baptist Church, where he became a member shortly thereafter.
Doug’s life will be celebrated privately, with close family.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to either of the following: Valley Baptist Church https://secure.myvanco.com/L-YRC1/home -OR- Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains https://friendsofthesmokies.org/donate/
