Helen E. Magyar, 97, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at Avalon Springs in Valparaiso on February 18, 2021. Mom was born May 24, 1923 to Michael and Anna Grcich in Donora, Pennsylvania. She married Alex Magyar in August, 1948 in Donora, with her sister Kay and future brother-in-law, Ed Koday, in attendance. Mom and Dad loved to travel, especially to visit their sons in Idaho, Alaska, Washington, Puerto Rico, and even Guam. Dad passed away in October, 1997, in Valparaiso. Mom was preceded in death by a son, Gerard, her sister, Dorothy Emler, and brother, Joe Grcich. She is survived by her sister, Kay Koday, of Valparaiso, sister Ann Janacek (Jim), of Florida, and sister in law Virginia Grcich, of Valparaiso, and many Emler, Koday, Grcich and Janacek nieces and nephews. She is  mourned by her sons, Bob (Jill) of Idaho, Bill, Bud (Sue) of Alaska, and Barry (June) of Idaho. She is survived by her grandchildren, Megan Magyar Dicken (Sean) of Medford, Oregon, and Spencer Magyar, of Seattle. She is especially missed by her granddaughter, Megan, who had a close and special bond with her. The family appreciated the love and assistance provided by cousin Sarah Grcich, who was there for Mom when they couldn’t be.
A private celebration of life for Mom and Dad will be held by the family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dunes Hospice.
