Charles Dow
Lindsey, Sr. 82, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at
home with his family. Born May 15, 1929 in Orange County, Indiana to Zelbert
Mason Lindsey and Dessie Myrtle (Wineinger) Lindsey the third of six children.
He married Doris Marie Crowder on August 27, 1948, in Huntingburg, IN. They were
married for 63 years. Four children were born to this union: Martha Lynn;
Kathryn Jo; Charles Dow Jr.; and David Mark.
Charles worked on the ore docks at the Gary Works of United States Steel for 36
years, was an ore crane operator for 20 years and management for 8 years. After
his retirement from U.S.Steel, he worked as a crane operator for 22 years at
Hobart Crane.
Preceded in death by his parents, older brothers, Robert & Doyle; younger
sister, Mary June; youngest son, David Mark and great granddaughter, Emilie Jo.
He is survived by Doris Marie; three of four children: Martha (Don) Regier of
Tokyo, Japan; Kathryn Jo (Greg) Witherspoon of Chesterton; and Charles (Louise)
Lindsey Jr. of O’Fallon, MO; one daughter-in-law, Sherri Lindsey/Miller of Mena
AR; eight grandchildren: Jason (Shelly) Witherspoon of LaPorte; Deborah Regier
of Tacoma, WA; Megan Witherspoon of Valparaiso; Matthew Regier of Tacoma, WA;
Clinton Lindsey and Mary Lindsey of O’Fallon, MO; Caleb (Jacey) Lindsey and
Benjamin Lindsey of Mena, AR; two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Kayleigh
Witherspoon of LaPorte; brother, Donald of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Janet
(Robert) Curtis of Brownsburg, IN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:30 am at
Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt,
Valparaiso, Rev. Greg Carter and Rev. Don Regier officiating, burial at
Angelcrest Cemetery. Visitation
Tuesday from 3 – 7 pm. Memorials to
Liberty Bible Church, VNA of Porter
County or charity of your choice.
