Chester R. “Chet” Coan, 74, of Valparaiso,
passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011. He was born July 22, 1937 in
Chesterton, IN to John and Hazel (Williams) Coan. Chet grew up in Burns Harbor
where he served on the Burns Harbor Fire Department and was the Building
Inspector. He retired from Bethlehem Steel where he had been a foreman. He was
a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah.
On December 22, 1991 at the Valparaiso Country Club he married Patricia Kuharik,
who survives, along with three children: Andrew (Cheri) Coan of Florida, Pam
(Kent) Hoefling of Illinois and Jeffery (Julie) Coan of Ohio; two sisters:
Louise Coan and Maye Simpson; and one brother, James Coan all of Florida; six
grandchildren: Dennis, Alicia, Isaac, Adrian, Madeline and Lola. He was
preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Lindy, Charlie and Larry and
one sister, Jayne Ballatore.
Chet was loved and will be remembered for his hard work, his willingness to
help, his ability to fix anything, and for being one of the “3 Musketeers” along
with Orlando and John.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 22 from 4-7 PM at
Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt
Rd., Valparaiso, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM with the Rev. Jerry
Schweitzer officiating. Memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society.
