Michael A. “Mike” Vandenberg, 66, of Valparaiso formerly of Chicago, IL passed away Sunday July 25, 2010 at his home.  He was born on December 22, 1943 in Evergreen Park, IL to Roy and Mildred (Karas) Vandenberg.  He received his BA in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois and worked as the Vice President and General Manager of Buckeye Refinery retiring in 2007.  He was an active member of the American Society of Chemical Engineers and enjoyed working on home improvement projects.
On June 18, 1966 in Oak Lawn, IL he married Lynn (Westergren) Vandenberg who survives along with 2 children:  Michael Vandenberg, Jr. of Gurnee IL and Cary Vandenberg of Oak Park IL, 2 grandchildren:  Jake and Nick, 2 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Roy and Roger and 1 sister Eleanor Calandra.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday July 29, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. James Armstrong officiating at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd Valparaiso IN 46383 burial to take place following at Fairmount Willow Hills Memorial Park 9100 Archer Avenue Willow Springs IL 60480.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.  In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the American Cancer Society.
