Edward A. Parker, 88, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at home with his family by his side.  He was born September 12, 1921 in Gary the son of Albert & Eleanor (Erlandson) Parker, graduated from Wirt High School in 1939 and served with the U.S. Navy during WW II in Europe and the South Pacific.  Ed had served on an LST on the beaches of Normandy in June of 1944, being exposed and waiting hours for high tide to allow departure back to England.  He began his career at Gary Screw & Bolt before 22 years of employment at The Budd Company as a Tool & Die Maker until his retirement in 1982.
On November 21, 1942 in Gary he married Naomi Kean who survives along with their three children: Donald (Barbara) Parker of Murphy, NC, Jean (Raymond) Miller of Norman, OK, Mary (David) Sherbak of Valparaiso, sister, Donna Kidwell of Portage, grandchildren: Jennifer & Christopher Sherbak, Katherine & Sarah Miller, Susan Schaeffer, Jessica & Donald Parker and one great grandson, Nikolaus Sherbak.  He was preceded in death by a brother Earl Parker.
A funeral service will be held Monday 11:00 AM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, Chaplain Craig Forwalter officiating with cremation to follow.  Visitation Sunday from 1 -5 PM.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
