Roman Ivan
Filipowicz, M. D. 88, passed away June 18, 2010 in Jacksonville, FL. He was
born in Lviv, Ukraine, formerly a resident of South Holland, IL, and Valparaiso,
IN. Dr. Filipowicz graduated from Charles University in Prague. Immediately
after World War II, Dr. Filipowicz took care of patients who had been forced
laborers in Germany, especially those affected by tuberculosis. Dr. Filipowicz
moved to Venezuela from Europe in 1948, and settled permanently in the United
States in 1965. He served as chief of staff of Ingalls Memorial Hospital, and
was a successful family practitioner until his retirement at the age of 80. Dr.
Filipowicz also served with the Suburban Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium
District. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleonora Filipowicz and his
brother Taras Filipowicz. Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Daria Marranzini
(Jose); sons, Dr. Roman O. Filipowicz (Carolyn) and Andrey Filipowicz (Ana);
and seven grandchildren, Eleonora, and Gabriela Marranzini, Andrew, Christopher,
Theresa, Hala and Alexander Filipowicz. |
